Mozart meets India

August 11, 2006
If for Thiruvasagam, Tamil Maiyam had a veteran like Ilayaraja to do the orchestration, in the new effort, it was done by Nellai Jesuraj, who Raj describes as a humble boy from Tirunelveli who has studied only up to 10th standard and is teaching music at the Sankaracharya School in Tirunelveli.

Eminent vocalists like Bombay Jayashree and O S Arun have sung for the album while there are 75 instrumentalists in the orchestra. Of the 27 violinists, there is well known violinist Embar Kannan on violin, L Kishore Kumar on sitar, Kadri Gopinath on Saxaphone, Arun Pandian on guitar and A K Devi in Veena. Accompanying them are 40 chorus singers.

The sound mixing was done by Ian Cross who works for stars like Janet Jackson and M Night Shyamalan. The album will be launched in Chennai on AUgust 25 and later in Britain too.

Says Raj, "We are not hoping to hit the world market in a big way. But it will be a genuine global sound track from India. If Pizza Hut, KFC and McDonalds can come and conquer our market, our music also can be marketed globally.”

The proceedings from Mozart Meets India will go towards Project Give Life run by Shriram Social welfare Trust and Tamil Maiyam to support poor, orphaned children and neglected delinquent juveniles.
