Amma came, saw and conquered

One moved a few metres ahead where the ladies had congregated. The entire area looked as if it was washed in bright colours; yellow, red, orange. Water sachets were also seen strewn all over the road. After all, the ladies had been waiting for Amma from 12 noon.

As one asked the question, 'are you not tired of waiting?' to a lady whose name was Rugmini, she countered, "So what? We are here with these kalasams (ceremonious silver pots decorated with a coconut atop) to welcome Amma. For the sake of Amma, we are willing to bear even the hottest sun." She then started the story of how she was named Rugmini. "Do you know it was MGR who picked me up from my mother's hands and called me Rugmini?"
