Amma came, saw and conquered

One could see long queues of vehicles on the road and fretting and fuming passengers inside each one. Even more mad and edgy were the hundreds of policemen on the road trying to let the vehicles pass and trying not to let the people come outside the restraining rope.

Wisely, we parked our vehicles far away in a small side lane, and walked through the commotion. As one reached the temple at Saidapet from where Chief Minister and the AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha was going to kick off her election campaign this year, it became extremely tough and painful to make way for oneself by pushing aside the party workers. Also painful was the deafening sound emanating from the loudspeaker; even one's thoughts got stifled by the music.
