Shivaji Park Durga Puja

As you walk into The Bombay Sarbojonin Durgotsav Committee pandal at Shivaji Park, you feel as if you are in Kolkata, at least for a moment. Held under the auspices of the Bengal club, Durga Puja here has a typical Kolkata fervour. As people stand in a line for afternoon bhog, one can almost hear the dhakis playing back home.

That the organisers are efficient comes as no surprise, considering this is the puja's 70th year. Apart from bhog for visitors, the committee has also arranged for drawing, recitation, dance and music competitions in the morning and dhunuchi dance and shankhadhwani competitions for adults in the evening. Stalls selling books, fashion accessories and household goods have also been put up. In addition, cultural programs with singers Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sampa Kundu and Pinaz Masani!
