On Friday, anti-corruption units of the Central Bureau of Investigation conducted countrywide raids against corrupt government officials and politicians. Several IAS officers of the rank of joint secretary and above, customs, income tax and police officers were under the CBI scanner. Raids were conducted at more then 150 places across the nation.

Among those raided was Delhi police inspector Ishwar Singh who, in 2000, exposed the match-fixing scandal allegedly involving late South African captain Hansie Cronje.

However, CBI director Uma Shankar Misra admitted that the information about the raids on corrupt officials was prematurely leaked .
