On Thursday, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said India and Pakistan have agreed to withdraw troops from their present positions in Siachen glacier but the modalities have to be worked out.>
However, reacting to Mukherjee's statement, Pakistan said there were "some major differences" with India on modalities of withdrawal of troops from Siachen glacier and the two sides were trying to address them through "intense negotiations".
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, vice president of the Bhartiya Janata Party, has said the government should not act in a great hurry to withdraw troops from the Siachen glacier without taking the country into confidence and by ignoring ground realities.
