Is the nuclear deal on, partner?

< Back > < Next >

United States President George W Bush had assured Prime Minister Mamohan Singh during the latter's visit to the country that he will work to achieve full civil nuclear energy cooperation with India as it had realized its goal of achieving energy security.

The announcement met with criticism both with US and outside. The latest salvo being from China.

"Now that the United States buys another country in with nuclear technologies in defiance of international treaty, other nuclear suppliers also have their own partners of interest as well as good reasons to copy what the United States did," it said.

Meanwhile, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Nicholas Burns, has said that Bush would still visit India in winter -- a fully negotiated deal, approved by Congress, in hand or not.

Now how good is that for India?
