Padma Awards: India honours her achievers
Journalist and environmentalist Sunita Narain (in the picture), who was conferred the Padma Shri, felt that by recognising her campaign the government has given a boost to those who work for environmental causes. Narain had taken on the cola majors in 2003 over the presence of pesticides in their products.
Media magnates too featured on the list: Vice Chairperson of The Hindustan Times Shobhana Bhartia and Editor of Malayala Manorama Mammen Mathew (in the picture) were given the Padma Shri.
