
Padma Awards: India honours her achievers
President A P J Abdul Kalam gave away the prestigious Padma Awards for 2005 in a glittering ceremony at the stately Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.
Among the 85 recipients were superstar Shah Rukh Khan (in the picture, receiving the Padma Shri), cartoonist R K Laxman (Padma Vibhushan), legendary singer Manna Dey (Padma Bhushan) and Olympic silver medallist Lt Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Padma Shri).
Shah Rukh Khan, who was accompanied by his wife Gauri, told rediff.com he will now have to work hard to deserve the honour the country has bestowed upon him.
