Cardinal Ennio Antonelli
The Archbishop of Florence is a popular figure among Italian bishops. At 68, he is seen as an affable, pastoral man with a strong interest in peace and justice issues.
On doctrinal issues, he is orthodox, although he has shown moderation in applying doctrine. For example, he defended divorced Italian politicians, arguing that the church should care more about their policy than their personal behaviour.
He taught art for several years in Italian public schools.
