Name: Rubina (Right). Age: 25
Education: No formal education
Hails from: Kolkata, West Bengal

A young mother of three, all was well in Rubina's life till a few years ago. Then, in search of greener pastures, her husband came to Mumbai. That was the beginning of Rubina's miseries.

Soon, she learnt that he had married another woman in Mumbai. She came to the city hoping to salvage a father for her three kids.

But her husband, a drug addict, would not leave the other woman.

Rubina, not knowing what life might have in store for her and the children, decided to find a job in Mumbai and survive.

And survive she did.

She started with some household work. And then she went where women who see nothing other than a big dark question mark staring at them go. To the beer bars.

She now dances in a bar and earns a lot.

Her mother, along with her brothers, takes care of the children. And now, the family is dependent on Rubina.

It's been one-and-half-years now.

She visits her kids, aged four, three and two, in Kolkata every three or five months.

"No one from my family is employed, I am the only earning member. If the dance bars are closed, then I'll have no other option but to turn to prostitution," Rubina said.
