Former Union Carbide chairman traced: Greenpeace

An NGO has claimed to have tracked down Warren Anderson, former chairman of Union Carbide, who faces homicide charges over the 1984 Bhopal (in Madhya Pradesh) gas leak disaster that killed 3,500-odd persons and injured, some permanently, several hundred thousands.

According to a report on the website of Greenpeace, Anderson now resides in Long Island, New York.

Indian authorities have so far shown reluctance to pursue Anderson claiming he was untraceable.

In fact, only on Wednesday, a Bhopal court had rejected an application by the Central Bureau of Investigation to have the charges against him reduced to negligence.
