Pak fire in Kashmir has lessened: army chiefThe intensity of fire from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir has come down, army chief General V P Malik said. "It is not as much it was a couple of days back," he said in New Delhi. For over a week, Pakistani troops have been using heavy mortar and artillery shells on Indian positions in Baramulla, Kupwara, Kargil and Jammu sectors, forcing thousands of civilians to migrate to safer areas from near the Line of Control. Though the guns had fallen silent briefly on Tuesday evening, it had opened up again the next day. General Malik called for sensitising the people, especially the youth, to national security issues 'to meet threats in future.' The army chief was speaking after releasing a film on Victoria cross winner Sub Major (Hony Capt) Umrao Singh. UNI |
