Pak guns finally fall silent along LoC

After a week of shelling along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani guns have fallen silent since Tuesday evening.

Seven people, including three army personnel, were killed, 23 others injured and over two dozen houses, a police station and two vehicles damaged in firing in Gurez, Karnah, Keran, Uri, Kargil and Kamalkote sectors in the last week.

"The LoC is quiet from Kargil to Karnah and Uri since Tuesday evening," an official spokesman said.

He said most people living near the LoC have fled to safer areas.

A defence ministry spokesman said Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on civilian areas of Karnah on Tuesday.

He said Pak shells also hit Chittrakote, Bhatpura and Chamlot village in the Tangdar sector, injuring 15 persons.

He said about 20 houses, a truck, a bus and some shops were damaged in Keran sector.

The spokesman said the Jammu and Kashmir Hydel Corporation power generating station has also been affected due to shelling, rendering the entire Karnah tehsil without electricity.

In Kupwara and Baramulla, at least six persons, including three army personnel, were killed in the fire from across.
