US ready to work with India, others to resolve Iraqi crisis

The Clinton administration has said the United States would like to work with India and other countries to resolve the crisis raging over the United Nation's inspection of Iraqi weapons.

A state department official made this statement while commenting on Prime Minister I K Gujral's letter to President Bill Clinton opposing the use of force against Iraq.

The official drew attention to the diplomatic efforts being made by the US administration to find a peaceful solution to the crisis. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is currently touring the Gulf in this connection. On Monday, she met Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah in Riyadh. At the end of the meeting, the Saudi government issued a statement saying that if diplomacy failed and the US attacked Iraq, the fault 'would lie exclusively on the Iraqi regime', he said.
