Militants massacre 7 more Hindus in JK

Unidentified militants gunned down seven Hindu villagers and torched eight houses in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Tuesday.

In other incidents of violence, 16 people, including 10 militants and two security personnel, were killed across the state.

At the border, heavy shelling, which is continuing for the seventh day in Uri, Gurez, Karnah, Keran and Tangdar, killed seven persons, including four Border Security Force soldiers, and injured seven jawans.

Police sources said that a group of militants struck at village Balmatkote in Mahore area of Udhampur district, spraying bullets on innocent Hindu villagers. Five people died on the spot.

Later, a group struck at village Narullah Phamrot in Gool area and gunned down two more Hindus.

Senior police and security officers have rushed to the spot along with reinforcements. Searches for the culprits are on in the area.

Meanwhile, several Muslim families have migrated from Mada Salsaan Surankote in Poonch district, where 19 Muslim villagers, including 14 children, were gunned down on Tuesday, sources said. The gunmen had beheaded the children while they were sleeping.

The overall situation in the state will be reviewed at a high-level meeting in Srinagar tomorrow. The meeting will be presided over by Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah who has returned to New Delhi, cutting short his holiday in London.
