Reasons : I firmly believe that T.N. Seshan should be the right choice as a person of the year. There is a time for everything and everything has its time. When we needed independence it was Gandhiji,who was the leader. Now when India badly need to get out of it bureacracy and corruption and there are very few people who has fought against the system. Seshan is one of few persons who dared to challange the system. He is like a beam in the midst of darkness. It is impossible to believe the way the elections were held without violence, booth-capturing and dumy votes. For that world has ever seen an election taking place without resources wasted in election propaganda. It becomes more difficult for a person to fight against the sytem when he is not sure who is reliable or not. I respect him for his endeavors and so will all Indian citizens.(except for politicians, goons) As the saying says "Tough times do not last, but tough peoples do."

Reasons : In the 50th year of Independance, it must be reiterated that India is comitted to the DEMOCRATIC polity which is very vital to India. The 13 day Govt. of Atalji represents this comitment. The Indian Polity has now taken more concrete shape in th e form of two or three political parties. Barring some brief tenures, congress-I has ruled most of the time in these 50 years and is by and large responsible for the mess on many fronts. The emergence of BJP was no way a wonder but for the hard work by the stalwarts like Vajpayee. In democratic perspective, Shri Vajpayee is second to none. His accepctance to form the Govt. and resignation in the wake of failure to prove the majority, has set an example that would be looked upon by the masses and even by the political opponents.
