Person Nominated : P. V. Narashima Rao

Reasons : Narashima Rao did what is best for our country within the set of constraints he faced at his time of prime-ministership.

India is a difficult contry to rule, with too much of irresponsibility at every level and absolute anarchy from people's perspective. Charishmatic Gandhi's family and most other politician's did many things, but mostly out of personal interests and in a w ay that will never let our country grow out of its problems.

Narashima Rao, Could have remained a dormant and useless leader like past leaders and in India, it would have been considered wrong. But he decided to improve India, inspite of all his disadvantages and difficulties, opened India not set the pace for bett er economy, but also a way to re-vitalise our country. In my opinion, what we see now is just an offshoot of his efforts.

This year, we see the sadistic vilification of Narashima Rao and I personally feel he needs to be told that we all support him and applaud the efforts he had taken for our country. So I select him as Man of 1996.

Person Nominated : Atal Behari Vajpayee

Reasons : No one can point to a better person for PM of India. If people can elect the PM by direct ballot he will be the PM until he wants to retire. He will be like George Washington of US - he will shape the country to follow the principles of real demacracy, real secularism, real liberty, and real opportunities for every one.

He has demonstrated this effectively for the past 4 decades. The day of hope is not far away when the person of this year Mr. Vajpayee will assume the Prime Ministership of India.

Person Nominated : Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Reasons : Atal B. Vajpayee, during his tenure as the shortest lived PM in Indian political history since 1947, has boldly shown the nepotist and corrput ways of the pseudoseculars who have engaged in mindlessly false slander against the Hindu culture. This bold person has exposed the lip-service paid by anti-Hindu intellectuals on the functions of a democratic government in India. India needs more Atal Biharis than corrupt Narasimha Raos and incompetent Deve Gowdas. Shame on the latter two power hungry politicans !
