Date sent: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 11:44:24 -0800 (PST)

Person Nominated : Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Reasons : Vajpayee , in his short stint as PM has projected in himself a future PM. With Rao out of the scene, and Deve Gowda, seemingly only a temporary PM, there is considerable unanimity in the belief that Vajpayee will be an excellent PM (or the head of state) even by people who may not support BJP. 1996 showed India a really eligible PM for a long Time.

From: K.Pieush.Saktawat@professionals.com <saktawat@alpha.fdu.edu>

Date sent: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 15:32:01 -0800 (PST)

Person Nominated : Mr. T. N. Seshan

Reasons : My principal in the school used to always narrate that famous saying that "never think that what the country can do for you, but always think that what you can do for your country" and i think this thing totally applies to this man. The biggest plus point with him is that he is not a politician and thus doesn't care for anybody in discharging his duties to the best of his ability. This is totally evident in the way he has helped in clearing the junk from the electoral process and the way the last lok sabha elections were conducted.People term his working as autcratic but i think the country needs such autocratic persons. I salute to him.

Date sent: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 18:05:54 -0800 (PST)

Person Nominated : Shri Balasaheb Deoras

Reasons : He lead RSS, the largest voluntary organization in the world. Not an easy task by any means. He guided millions in their task of Hindu Renaissance over more than 2 decades. His simple life has inspired thousands to work self-lessly for the society. Without a doubt, Bharat, and indeed the World has lost a great son, when he passed away this year. Under his tutelage, RSS has spun out hundreds of Seva organizations whose results we see in our daily lives - be it the Airline collision near Delhi, or the Cyclone in Andhra Pradesh.
