From: K.Pieush.Saktawat@professionals.com <saktawat@alpha.fdu.edu> Date sent: Thu, 7 Nov 1996 10:59:57 -0800 (PST) Person Nominated: T N Seshan Reasons: I still remember the famous saying which used to be frequently told to me by my school principal that "never think what the country can do for you but always think that what you can do for your country". And according to me this man has fully realized his duties towards his country and handled the politicians on one hand and the bureaucrats on the other intelligently and performed his duties without any fear or favor. No doubt he faced with lot of enemity and critism from lot of quarters but he biggest plsu point with this man is that he is not a politician and thus does not care about anything and anybody in the performance of his duties. I still remember the critism he faced on the issue of I-Cards but ultimately the introduction of I-cards in the country has given way for numerous Mal-practises that used to take place during the election process. I sincerely hope that the country will have more of such personalities in the near future who can serve as models for the coming generation and realise them about their duties towards their nation as a whole. I salute to such personalities as Mr T N Seshan.

From: R.Srinivas.Vignesh@professionals.com <vignesh@usa.net> Date sent: Thu, 7 Nov 1996 20:18:07 -0800 (PST) Person Nominated: T N Seshan Reasons: Well, Seshan may be a bit arrogant, may be controversial, but looking back at what he has done to Indian politics and the voter, he is definitely my Man of the Year. He may have brought fear in the minds of politicians, made a true attempt to cleanse the political system of India, conducted free & fair elections in the troubled states, but above all he brought about adistinctive awareness in the minds of the people. He has placed the importance of the elections in he mind of an India voter. Politicians, Sportsmen, even social service rendering people acquire fame quite easily but Seshan has been the only official who has een capable of the same. This, along with the fact he has been awarded various International awards, I believe, is vindicative of my nomination.

From: Arun.Gnanagurudasan@professionals.com <garun1@uic.edu> Date sent: Fri, 8 Nov 1996 12:52:51 -0800 (PST) Person Nominated: Arundhati Ghose Reasons: Arundhati Ghose seems to be the coolest choice from the outside-India perspective -- representing India in nuking the nuclear countries, although I am not astute enough to evaluate the impact it has made on the world.
From: Mrinal.Kumar.Singh@professionals.com <Msingh_DSS.Developers@state.ma.us> Date sent: Fri, 8 Nov 1996 15:27:59 -0800 (PST) Person Nominated: Chief Justice A M Ahmedi Reasons: He has ensured his place in History by bringing back the respect and faith of the people in the judiciary. Judicial Activism was necessary in the current scenario where there has been rampant corruption and abuse of poewr by the high and mighty along with criminalization of politics. He has been to the judiciary what Mr Seshan was to the Election Commission but wihtout the fanfare and self aggrandizement. He has been a low key but at the same time the most important role in what we see happening today in our judicial system. He has withstood the pressures of the high and mighty and gone ahead with a cleansing of our politicians who once considered themselves above the law.
