How was your experience working with Farhan Akthar? You have sung many songs for his films and now he has sung in Rock On! Any comments?
Farhan and my sister (Sagarika) are close friends. All three of us used to hanging out together. So when he did Dil Chahta Hai, I remember going to his place and listening to the songs. I told him that the music was good but he had to publicise it well, because the music of the film was very different from the kind of music then. However, the music did well, which I think started the advent of something new.
Farhan took a chance but it worked. I sang for him in Lakshya as well and there again, the song was very unconventional and differently picturised. Main Aisa Kyun Hoon was probably the only track that was popular. And then Don came up. I still open every act of mine with it's title track.
It was wonderful to be associated with Farhan. The plan of Rock On! was a very brave idea. And it came at a time when everybody in the music fraternity had given up on good music. People started considering songs as just a part of the film or as just an item number or to create promotions for the film.
At this point to make a film that was completely music driven is absolutely fantastic. I would like to thank Rock On! for coming out with a whole new sound of music. After Rock On, I've been singing a lot of songs that have a strong rock element in them. I think just like Dil Chahta Hai, Rock On! is another milestone project.
