'I had no idea what the role was'

Didn't Bala tell you what the role was?

No. I had no idea what the role was.

You mean he just asked you to act in his film, and you agreed?

Exactly. He asked me, 'can you play the protagonist in my film?' And I said yes.

Were you scared once he told you about your role in the movie?

I was not scared. The first thing he did was to show me photographs of a sadhu in padmasan and sheershasan. He then said, 'I want you to do this in a month and a half'. I said 'cool', without knowing how difficult it was going to be.

First, I went to a yoga consultant and told him that I needed to learn yoga. I then showed him the photograph and said, 'I need to do this'. He looked at me and asked, 'how long have you been practising yoga?' I replied, 'I want to start now'. He then told me, 'okay, we can start with the basics, and in one and a half years, you can do sheershasan'. When I told him that I had only 30 days, he told me, 'this is the toughest asana in yoga and you can't immediately do it'. I returned home and started practising the pose every day.

You mean to say that without learning yoga, you started sheershasan straight away?

Yes, I wanted to learn it as fast as I could. For the first few days, I had huge neck problems because I had no idea how to do it properly. I was very lucky I didn't break my neck. Because I was an athlete, I am flexible and could do padmasan without any difficulty. After some time, I became an expert in sheershasana also.
