Sleep well, Butch Cassidy

See you around, Butch Cassidy

September 26, 2008. That's when the owner of an incredible pair of blue eyes passed away, dulling the shine of that silver screen forever in the process.

Paul Newman shone bright and is worthy of remembrance not for his acting alone, but his incredible work as a humanitarian. The remarkable star of such movies as Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid and The Hustler as well as director of a number of films, Newman managed to break through the 1960s and is remembered as one of the few stars who managed to make it successfully as an actor in every decade from the 1950s to the 1970s and beyond.

He was nominated for nine Academy Awards, and finally won it for his role as an ageing pool shark in 1986's The Colour of Money, directed by Martin Scorsese.

Always a hard worker, Newman had been preparing to direct a stage play based on Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men when he suddenly chose to back out of the project, citing pressing health issues.

Amidst rumours of his deteriorating health conditions brought about by lung cancer, Newman had been photographed leaving a cancer hospital in a fragile state. He eventually succumbed to the disease and passed away peacefully at home.
