I enjoyed the whole process. Getting into the character one moment and then donning the director's robe the next was indeed fun for me. I am so happy that I got this opportunity. I am like a child who got his favourite candy. I am enjoying every moment of the film.

I spent 20-30 days at a place where mentally-challenged people lived. I observed them. But because I wrote the script, I knew the character inside out. I created him. So, it is not stressful at all. The advantage I have is that I don't have this desire to prove myself as an actor. I do what is written in the script and come back and plan the next shot.

I would say every director has an actor inside him. Without that he cannot communicate what he wants. I am a script writer-turned-director.

You also have a seven-year old boy as your companion...

Yes. You can't say who the protagonist of the film is. They are alter egos.

Many say handling a child is very difficult. How was it for you?

My experience is different. He is very good and I have learnt a lot from him. The child was so spontaneous that I felt a miracle was happening in front of me. He has no inhibition and no baggage. His name is Ashwath Ram, and I selected him after auditioning 100 children. I have finished shooting 30% of the film.
