Varma was a lot more impressive in this 2003 film, probably the only good horror film this decade.
Bhoot featured Urmila Matondkar and Ajay Devgan dealing with a dead woman's spirit in the confines of a Mumbai apartment, and Varma's inventive shadow-play with the everyday venue made this film significantly scary.
Manjeet, the spirit, is a memorable modern-day horror icon, and even though the plot diverts into a loopy climax, Varma's now typical horror sound design (which hurls boos at a viewer, loudly) was then unique and perfectly suited to this slickly made film.
