'Varun and I shared a good rapport'

Varun is almost the same age. How did you relate to him as a co-star?

Varun and I come from different backgrounds. He is from the south and I belong to the north. He has been brought up in the US and I in India. But belonging to the same age group, the kind of perception and all that we had, we kind of connected quite a lot. We did have a good rapport. We shared good vibe, and I think that has come across very well.

What were the highpoints of shooting the film?

Working with senior artistes like Brahmanandam Sir and Jayasudhaji (though I did not have many scenes with her) and others. Unfortunately I didn't have any scenes with Prakash Raj.

Getting involved in a new culture complete with a new language was quite a challenge, which I tried to master every day.

How was it surmounting the language barrier?

Initially when I entered the set, I was completely blank. I wondered what people talked about. I did not know the language. They would give the script of the scene about 10-15 minutes before shoot. So there was a lot of haste. But thanks to my memory power, I could memorise them. Genuinely my memory is the plus point and that's why I got through the lines so easily.

Our director Srikkanth would improvise the lines at the last minute and even jumble the words. So I had to be on my toes. For an artiste to get the lines right is important. Only when you understand the lines, you will know how to react, how to feel for each word because each word has a meaning. For an actor to get the minutest expression for every word is very important.
