'Take recent Hindi films like A Wednesday or Welcome to Sajjanpur they were mind-blowing, Telugu cinema needs films like that'

There are certain expectations from a Teja film. What can we look for in Keka?

Don't look for anything. Go see the movie with a clean heart.

The movie is shot in many places. Is it a travel film?

It is not a travel film. It was shot in 60 days spread over five months. The story starts in Kolkata, goes to Rajasthan, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Rajasthan and finishes in Kolkata.

You set a trend of sorts by introducing new actors, imparting freshness to storylines. Are you happy that Telugu cinema is seeing a change albeit minimal?

Telugu films are crude. Initially I was aesthetic. I also became cruder and was sucked into it. I am now trying to break out of it. Take recent Hindi films like A Wednesday or Welcome to Sajjanpur They were mind-blowing. Telugu cinema needs films like that. I want things to change faster. When I did Chitram, I never thought the industry would change. I will keep doing my experimentation. But people tend to play safe in Telugu.

What about experimentation in Telugu cinema? Does it happen in Malayalam?

It continuously happens in Malayalam. Other than me, who experiments in Telugu?
