Is that why you have been more or less choosing off beat films?
It's not just these films, its the fact that when I look back at my career I should be able to see that I also did some films that I am truly proud of.
I hold Veer Zaara very close to me. Similarly, Heaven on Earth. Also, the film is one I want every man to watch as much as I want women to do the same. I want them to know that one slap, or push, could not just physically hurt a woman, but also damage her spirit very deeply.
I mean, we might be a country that has a lot of things to be proud of, but we certainly don't have any reason to be proud of the way we treat our women. Whenever I would finish shooting for Heroes, in Punjab, and distribute chocolates to village kids, there would be 40 boys and eight girls. I was shocked! They have just killed all the girls.
I just want the common man to watch my films, and send out the message that if you would just let these daughters grow up, so much could change.
