'I know I am not a good singer but I made a daring attempt to sing'

How was the experience of working in Avakkai Biryani?

Wonderful. I always wanted to be introduced in a nice way. Sekhar was the right spark. By God's grace, all the melodies, barring one song, were okayed in the first instance. In fact I had another option for that song too. I am happy the music has come out well.

I have also sung a song for the first time. I know I am not a good singer but I made a daring attempt to sing. Lyrics too make a difference. Vanamali Sir (lyricist) was there with me. We gelled well. Musically that helped all.

Are you happy with the reviews?

I am happy and satisfied that people liked the songs. I'm proud to have done the music for Avakkai Biryani.

You have composed music for films in Malayalam and Kannada too. Do you plan to continue doing so?

I have done three films in Malayalam and two in Kannada. I have three forthcoming projects in Kannada (M S Sathyu's Ijjodu, Mahesh Sukhadare's Male Bille and Usha Kiron Movies' Sawari directed by Jacob) and one film in Malayalam (Orange directed by Biju Varkey).

How did you get to score music for Rajshri Ojha's film Chaurahen?

I had composed music for a Malayalam film Chandranilekkoru vazhi. Rajshri saw an article in the paper in Kochi which mentioned that I had given a sensible background score. She found out the director and asked him for my number and called me to Mumbai. She heard a few of my demo tracks and liked them. Then she signed me to do the music. It was basically the background score. There is only one song written by Gulzar saab and sung by Naresh Iyer. Chaurahen is a serious film and I loved working on the project. It is the longest one I worked on till date.
