Malayalam hit Kunjikoonan made its way into Tamil and Surya essayed the two different roles essayed by Dileep in the original.
An image-free disposition allowed Surya to play the role of a dashing college student Karthick -- and in the same breath, a not-so-good looking hunch-back Chinna, who dreams of love. Jyothika played his co-star here too.
Surya's preparations for his role as a hunch-back included cultivating a shrill voice, and his slippers, indicating his gait, were actually worn on one side.
Another stellar performance from Surya which won him the Filmfare Best Actor (Tamil) Award.
