'Who judges a man best?'

You didn't have a middle name earlier. Is Vasudev a tribute to your father?

Actually Vasudev is not my father's name; it's his father's name. I have been always been Gautham Vasudev Menon, that was how I was named by my father. When I made Minnale, the producer wanted only Gautham, and not my full name, and it continued till now. After he passed away, I decided to go back to my full name.

Why do you have a title like Vaaranam Aayiram?

It is from Aandal Thiruppavai and I have heard couplets with Vaaranam Aayiram (A Thousand elephants). Andal Thiruppai is about Aandal, who in her dream imagines her Lord comes to marry her accompanied by a thousand elephants with all pomp and splendour.

She says, he is such a fine man, and he came and married me and gave me a beautiful life. Okay, the film is the story of a man but I thought who judges a man best? A woman. So does the three women in the film too. It is a metaphor where they equate him to someone like that.
