Were you hesitant to make Surya, a man in his thirties, act as a teenager?
Yes, I was. But he showed me that he could pull it off in two months' time.
Why did you choose Surya to play the father too?
Actually I had called Mohanlal, Nana Patekar and a lot of people (for the father's role) but it didn't work out. Somewhere along the way, Surya kept telling me that he would do that role too. That is the USP of the film. He convinced us with his performance.
Sameera Reddy is much taller than Surya. Why did you opt for a taller heroine?
That is exactly why I cast her. I wanted a strikingly tall, good looking and intimidating heroine. She should not be easy to approach. Inspite of her being an intimidating figure, he goes after her.
And Divya?
I chose Divya because I wanted a girl-next-door kind of girl; somebody who can be your friend and who can become your love interest too.
For the mother and the back bone of the film, we wanted someone graceful. I wanted somebody like Simran. I had only one choice; Tabu but she said she had already done a similar role in Namesake. My next choice was Simran and I am glad that I went to her. She is fantastic.
