As Dame Helen Mirren well knows, it pays to play Queen. Historical British dramas have always been warmly appreciated by critics, and serve as great showcases for actors to play larger-than-line -- and get applause for the same.
This year, young and lovely Hollywood lasses have taken it unto themselves to wear the crown and hang their heads under it -- in probable Oscar hopes.
Here's a look at the dames coming up this year:
Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman in The Other Boleyn Girl:
Premiering at the Berlin Film Festival in Mid-February, this film might have gotten less than charitable reviews from critics -- most have compared it to a soap opera -- but director Justin Chadwick film gets major brownie points simply for casting two of the hottest actresses in the world in the same film.
Add to that Portman's provocative comments about Johannson and we have megabuzz despite a historically debatable film.
Scarlett plays Henry The VIII's wife Queen Anne, with Natalie as her sister -- and his mistress.
We're all right with the queens and all, but Eric Bana as Henry? Really? Wouldn't a tubby Dom DeLuise be better suited to play the famed glutton?
