The Lovely Bones
If you need to ask who Ryan Gosling is, you need to watch Half Nelson and be blown away by sheer performance. You know Rachel Weisz, the Oscar-winning Constant Gardener actress. And the director, Peter Jackson, is known for shedding pounds and making epic fantasy movies, usually written a long, long time ago.
Alice Sebold's fine novel doesn't make for an easy transition to the screen. A young teenager, murdered by her neighbour, narrates her story in first person while observing the goings-on with her family and acquaintances. Gosling and Weisz will play the parents, and while it remains to be seen if Jackson can indeed make this ambitious jump from page to screen, the director's really committed: he gave up directing The Hobbit to make this.
