Review: Juno

Juno's best friend, the delightfully perverse and twisted Leah (Olivia Thirlby) explains that there are prospective parents just dying to adopt a child, and they advertise -- 'Desperately Seeking Spawn,' she giggles -- in the local Pennysaver.

It is between this, as the two high school girls condescendingly reject couples who aren't edgy enough, that they seem to stumble on the perfect couple.

Mark and Vanessa Loring (a top-notch performance, really, by Cera's Arrested dad Jason Bateman, with Jennifer Garner in the role of her life) are attractive, well-to-do and virtually laminated in their flawlessness. It is an interesting dynamic, the way Juno and we are inevitably drawn towards one half of this couple -- only to have us later feel guilty about laying down our allegiance this readily.
