Eklavya
Even as Onir prepares to start work on his modern-day Hamlet adaptation -- rumoured at one point to star Hrithik Roshan as the eponymous tragic hero -- it's worth a thought to consider Sohrab Modi's feature debut, Khoon Ka Khoon, all the way back in 1935. Director Modi himself played the title role in the Urdu release.
More recently, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's visually stunning Eklavya was an uncloaked adaptation of the Bard's Hamlet, with the entire plotline echoing Hamlet yet adding its own perspective and flavour to the period proceedings.
