'Since the film is in Miami, I wanted Priyanka to wear a one-piece swimsuit'

How was the experience directing a film?

While assisting, it was completely different. All I had to do was check if we were running on schedule and if all the junior artistes were doing their parts right. But direction was different.

On the first day of shoot, I was looking at everything and everybody, except the cast. It was then that I realised that I am a director and I am not supposed to be bothered about the extras. Instead, I had to concentrate on my main characters.

I have matured as a director. I was never tensed about costumes as an assistant director. But now, I had to think of costumes, I had to keep every scene in mind and pay attention to every detail. It was hectic but I learnt.

Why did you choose to shoot in Miami?

I wanted to shoot in Miami because of the atmosphere there. I like their lifestyle and culture. The people in Miami work hard and party harder and I wanted to capture that in my film. The experience was great. We had no problems. The government was helpful and the people were co-operative.

You asked John to put on weight and make him look muscular.

John is a fitness freak. I wanted him to look out of this world in his introduction scene, when he comes out of the water. I want the girls and boys to go 'wow' on seeing him. He had lost a lot of weight for Aashayein, so I asked him to work out and gain weight and make himself fit.

So was the case with Abhishek. He had put on a lot of weight for Guru and getting him to reduce was a big task. He is big foodie. But he was dedicated. He would sit with us for lunch and have diet food when all of us had scrumptious food.

Since the film is essentially in Miami, I wanted Priyanka to wear a one-piece swimsuit.

What was the toughest part of shooting?

It was very hot and sunny in Miami, so it was difficult to shoot with reflectors. The reflectors wouldn't let us see each other.
