'You can't have Farhan lip-sync to Shankar Mahadevan'

What do you have to say to the idea of making the cast sing in their original voice?

Since the film is about a rock band, it would not look authentic for actual musicians to substitute for the cast. So if actors are playing musicians then they better play their own music and sing their own part. So everybody specifically learnt their parts of playing the drums or the guitar or in my case the keyboard. Farhan had to learn the guitar as he is the lead of the band. Now you obviously can't have him lip-sync to Shankar Mahadevan. So I think this gives authenticity and makes the film genuine.

What kind of response have you got so far?

It has been very good so far. I think they will pleasantly surprised to see the realism bought to the whole package. Anybody who is interested in music, wants to be in a band, or is in a band, or was in a band will be able to relate to at least 20 minutes of the film.

How was the experience of working with Abhishek Kapoor?

It was a great experience. He is very honest and open to all suggestions. He was like a bowl where he collected all suggestions from everyone and then picked what he wanted and did it the way he wanted. The atmosphere was very friendly on the sets.

How was your experience of working with the other actors?

I knew Purab from my Channel V days and Arjun from my modelling days. But we had lost touch over the years. So it was like a reunion.

Arjun is a chilled out guy and very involved in the film. As for Farhan, I have spent my last eight years watching his films and here I am in a film with him.
