Indra (2002)
A B Gopal directed movie, Indra was a proper commercial venture replete with stunts, fights and dances.
A blockbuster, it emerged as the highest grosser that year. Chiranjeevi played the role of Shankar Narayan in the film which is set against the backdrop of Rayalaseema (region of Andhra Pradesh) and later Varanasi.
Sonali Bendre plays Shankar's lady love Pallavi. Arti Agarwal was the second heroine. Chiru's action and dance sequences were a hit with the audience.
A R Murugadoss (who subsequently directed Chiranjeevi in Stalin) was inspired to write Stalin after seeing a people throng the 100-days function of Indra at Vijayawada which he happened to attend. "I was astounded to see one man drawing a crowd of 10 lakh. That is the image of Chiranjeevi. So this sparked off the idea."
