'It is not fair to give them a mediocre show'

There's a great deal of management, creativity and packaging that goes into our shows now that wasn't there earlier on," Amitabh said. "This shows that this is coming from a lot of patronage and enthusiasm of the people that come and watch our shows. We want to thank them for giving us this encouragement and making us work harder at the way we produce our shows so that we can compete with the very best there is in the world."

That is what Sona Patel admires in some of the best shows organised in recent years. "These shows are not inexpensive," she says, referring to the fact that many seats in the front rows go for $1,000. "People come with great affection and regard for the stars and musicians. It is not fair to give them a mediocre show."

It is not fair to give them a mediocre show even if they were paying one tenth of the top ticket price, she says.

Porbunder-born Sona Patel was a child when her parents migrated to America. As she grew up in Ohio, she imbibed the popular Hindi films culture.

"For all practical terms, I am a second generation Indian American," she says with a chuckle. "Now, my eight year old son is a fan of Bollywood."

Bringing a corporate touch to a show also means not looking at it like a pop and mom venture, she says. "Here, I am not the only one, who is involved in promoting the show," she says. "I have a smart and savvy associate called Poojaa Bathija."
