'I never thought about acting'

On Chitrandaga's background

My father was in the army, so my schooling was done in different parts of the country. I graduated from Lady Irwin College in Delhi. In college, I would participate in dance competitions but I never thought about acting.

Later, I started getting modelling offers and did a few ads. That led me to Gulzar's music video, Sunset Point.

Some of my modelling colleagues told me that auditions for Sudhir Mishra's Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi (2005) were on, so I tried my luck. I gave three auditions and passed. Sudhir Mishra took my fourth audition. He liked me and I was selected.

When I told my parents about it, they were surprised. They didn't know I wanted to act. But then, neither did I. I was getting decent money, thanks to modelling, and was happy with it. But my mother encouraged me, as she had seen Sudhir Mishra's films.
