'Remaking films is about updating the characters and emotions'

I read somewhere that there's a scene where you are sleeping, and the ghost tickles you.

Tickles? No. That was an experience I had while I was filming for Just Married. That was in Ooty -- Udagamandalam -- I can never pronounce it (laughs). I felt I was woken up by a ghost in the night at least on two occasions, which was quite unnerving. But it was okay; we went back to sleep.

Your dad is making Kurbani. The old Qurbani was a path-breaker in terms of its flamboyance -- the memorable Mercedes Benz smashing is an example. Today, when most of the movies employ the same extravagance, what element will make it stand out?

Yes, these were certain highlights in the movie. There have been a lot of car bash-ups since Qurbani, and the pop culture was introduced in Hindi films through that film.

But having said that, whenever you attempt to remake a film, you're not just recreating certain highlights, whether it is the Mercedes scene or the songs. It's about updating the characters and the emotions in the story and putting it into the context today which is the big challenge. If you believe you can do that successfully, then only you would want to remake a film and take it to the next level. Yes, of course, the action and the highlights of the film would have to be as good if not better.

Anand Raaj Anand has done the music on the remake. One song does have a flair of the original.

Is that Aap Jaisa Koi?

Well, the title track has a flair of the original. The others are completely new songs, but the meaning of the songs is similar.
