Meet the new sensation in Kannada cinema

She is not yet sixteen but Amoolya has already become the most popular heroine in the Kannada film industry.

She had worked as a child artist in many Kannada films before she was selected to play the lead in S Narayan's Cheluvina Chiththaara (remake of the Tamil film Kadhal) opposite Ganesh. The film has now become the biggest blockbuster of the year, and Amoolya, a sensation.

The magic Amoolya has created is such that in the theatres people are jumping deliriously whenever she appears on the screen. In a city like Bijapur, the photo studios are making brisk business by offering her fans their photos with Amoolya by morphing Ganesh's face with that of the fan!

More than anything else, the success of Amoolya has now triggered off a new trend in the Kannada film industry. Producers now want only teenage girls as heroines! Even a top notch director like Phani Ramachandra has selected a sixteen-year old girl for his new comedy film with Vijaya Raghavendra as the hero.

Amoolya speaks to R G Vijayasarathy about life after Cheluvina Chiththaara.
