Kishwar Desai's book Darlingji surprised many because it was the second book launched on the Dutts (Sunil and Nargis) after their children released a book on them.
Speaking about her book, Desai said, "The first one is the children's memories of their parents while mine deals with two individuals. The books are complementary and not in competition with each other."
Darlingji begins with Sunil Dutt revisiting Umra, the village where the film Mother India was shot in 1957.
Here she mentions the fire on the sets and how Sunil Dutt saved Nargis from danger. Thus began their affair that culminated in marriage.
Desai says, "They both came from different religious backgrounds but their love for each other was immense."
