Yesteryear actress Vyjayantimala Bali in her autobiography Bonding... A Memoir mentioned, '...During and after the release of Sangam, the fact of the matter was that RK (Raj Kapoor) was far too enamoured of getting publicity and grabbing the headlines. And that included the rumours that I was romantically involved with him.'

She further said, 'It was all the manipulative doing of RK banner's PR drive and unnecessarily this nonsense spread like a wildfire...

'Nobody from the media bothered to seek my point of view. This was absolutely baseless and made me angry,' she wrote.

'It hurt him and me in equal measures as like others even his family thought it to be true. But as far as my clean image and reputation was concerned, it remained untouched.'

Recalling another such instance, she says as far as publicity of a film was concerned Raj Kapoor was 'very self-centred'.

This allegation upset Rishi Kapoor who came out in open defence of his late father and said Vyjayantimala indeed had an affair.

He reportedly said, 'The affair created a lot of problems at home and that we along with his mother and siblings shifted to a hotel for more than four months because of it. '

He also accused Vyjayantimala of lying and distorting facts.
