Saat Hindustani (1969)
Nobody had the slightest premonition that this lanky youngster in his late twenties would capture the heart of millions when roped in to play a Urdu propagating poet in Left-wing playwright, script writer and filmmaker Khwaja Ahmad Abbas's nationalistic yarn, Saat Hindustani.
And yet Amitabh Bachchan's articulate presence and realistic portrayal more than made up for his gangly disposition and fetched him a National award for promising newcomer. It was perhaps an indication of the extraordinary success to come.
