Pokiri a Telugu movie made in 2006 by Puri Jaganath stars Mahesh Babu, Ileana D'Cruz, Prakash Raj, Sayaji Shinde, Ashish Vidhyarathi. Pokiri in Tamil starred Vijay and Asin, and was directed by Prabhu Deva.
In Hindi, it will be produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by Prabhu Deva. It stars Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, Om Puri, Mahesh Manjrekar and Sayaji Shinde. There are rumours that Shakira will do an item number.
Pokiri is a story about Mahesh Babu, an undercover cop who operates as Prakash Raj's henchman. He meets Ileana and soon, they fall in love.
But the day she decides to declares her love for him, Mahesh Babu gets attacked by a gang. He soon kills them all. On learning this, Ileana begins to fear him. Mahesh Babu, on his part, is helpless as he cannot reveal his identity.
Apparently, Ram Gopal Varma wanted to remake Pokiri, and even showed the film to Amitabh Bachchan. Bachchan insisted that son Abhishek should do Mahesh Babu's role. But things did not work out.
