'Arya is a daredevil'

I have read about the drag racing you shot on the roads. Can you explain what it is?

Drag racing is two vehicles racing against each other usually every Sunday morning. But now because of police intervention, it has reduced. You are not supposed to race autos; they are highly unstable.

When you talk about auto racing, you have to talk about the mechanics too. These mechanics are as important as the racers. These mechanics show who is superior by asking racers to race the vehicles tuned by them. Most of these racers are very young guys; some are in their early twenties. Most of the mechanics were racers once.

Is racing the background of your film?

No, it is the main story. It's about how Chandru played by Arya races and wins. At the same time, it is not like success of human or the underdog kind of story. There are other sub plots too.

Did Arya himself drive when you had auto racing?

Yes, he himself did the racing. Imagine a three wheeler going at 100 km/hr! He is a daredevil. The climax is the race sequence and shooting it was good fun. Our cameraman is a race specialist, Neerav Shah who shot Dhoom 2.

Was it after watching Dhoom that you asked him to shoot your film?

No, no. we know him for a long time. He is very much from Chennai.

Is your film a commercial one with songs?

Absolutely. We have songs in the film tuned brilliantly by G V Prakash, Rahman's nephew. It is a proper mainstream, funky, light film. We call it an action comedy. We are super excited and confident.
