You decided to make your first film on the auto drivers of Chennai. Why did you think of them?
That itself is a story. One night when we were returning home, our bike broke down. We then took an auto. It was midnight, then and the auto driver started driving at 90 km per hour. When we asked him why he was racing so fast, he started talking about the underground drag racing that happens in Chennai where autos race at 100-120 kms an hour!
Autos racing in Chennai?
Yes, we also didn't know about it till he told us. You may not know this, but this kind of drag racing has been going on in Chennai for the last 15-20 years. That was how the story originated. The drag racing, we felt was quite new to Tamil cinema.
What research did you do to understand the auto drivers of Chennai?
Of course, we did a lot of research by talking to a lot of auto drivers. We also got contacts to the specific auto drivers who race. We also contacted the specific mechanics who are passionate about tuning autos for the race. We needed to understand the environment basically.
Arya liked the script and was convinced.
