The film's idea came from Amole Gupte, who apparently went to college with Aamir.
The film was to be directed by Gupte initially, but Aamir was not happy with the way the film was progressing, and eventually decided to make it himself. Amole, however, has been credited in the titles.
Taare Zameen Par, which releases on December 21, also stars Darsheel Safary, Tanay Cheda, Sachet Enginner, Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma.
